This vlog is by Howard White, CEO, who presents the Campbell policy brief about sentencing and its effects on re-offending. This video shows how 12 Campbell systematic reviews used in the policy brief can help inform policymakers who want to reduce crime, and reform criminals. While an old study from 1974 resulted in a great number of reform programs being cancelled, up-to-date evidence from meta-analyses shows that many criminal justice programs actually are effective in reducing crime. Formal processing of young offenders and pre-court disposals managed by the police, which divert offenders from the criminal justice system rather than prosecuting them, can lead to reduced re-offending. The video builds upon our policy brief called The effects of sentencing policy on re-offending.
