Campbell celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, we are producing a series of virtual issues (special collections) of our journal Campbell Systematic Reviews, and a webinar series in collaboration with the Global Evidence Synthesis Initiative throughout the year.

The Crime & Justice Coordinating Group was one of the founding coordinating groups of Campbell. In this article, the group’s Methods Editor David Wilson and its Co-chairs Lorraine Mazerolle and Peter Neyroud reflect on the last 20 years.
Campbell systematic reviews’ policy impact
Campbell reviews are globally recognised as the gold standard in evidence synthesis for social and economic programmes. They are picked up in the media, mentioned in parliament, and help to inform policy decisions. Some reviews have even motivated policymakers to test a policy in their local setting.
A new brochure highlights examples of policy impact that our systematic reviews have had over our first 20 years. In the foreword, Campbell CEO Howard White writes, “Campbell’s vision is Better evidence for a better world. Over the years, we have been striving to achieve that vision through producing more evidence – that is, more high-quality systematic reviews and evidence maps – and to support a bigger policy impact from the evidence findings we publish”.
We hope this new publication will inspire researchers to do evidence synthesis, and inspire policymakers and practitioners to use research evidence. And we especially encourage funders to support Campbell’s essential work of providing “better evidence for a better world”.
