Interventions for Street-Connected Children and Young People

There are millions of children and young people estimated to be living and working on the streets around the world who are vulnerable to a number of risks.

A team led by Esther Coren, undertook a systematic review on the effectiveness of interventions for street-connected children and young people that promote inclusion, reintegration and the reduction of harms.

11 studies evaluating 12 interventions from high income countries were included in the review. Despite mixed results, the team found that therapy-based interventions and regular drop-in and shelter services benefited participants at a similar level. The authors expressed a need for more research on the topic in the future, particularly in low and middle income countries.
