The Campbell Collaboration has decided to form a new group which will produce systematic reviews on the effects of interventions in low and middle income countries. This was decided at the Steering Group meeting in Colorado in October.
This is the first time since its establishment that Campbell has set up a new coordinating group. It joins existing groups on crime and justice, social welfare, education, and methods, as well as the Users’ Group.
Partnership with 3ie
The group forms partly as a result of Campbell’s partnership with the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), formed in 2009. 3ie seeks to “improve the lives of poor people in low- and middle-income countries by providing, and summarizing, evidence of what works, when, why and for how much.” (source: www.3ieimpact.org)
The designated Co-chairs of the new group are Howard White, Chief Executive, 3ie, and Peter Tugwell, Professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada.
Call for proposals for reviews on development issues
3ie has joined with the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the Australian Aid agency (AusAid), to launch a call for proposals for systematic reviews of key policy questions within development. 59 studies will be commissioned in February 2011. The application deadline is November 29th, 2010.
