The Campbell Collaboration seeks submissions related to the theme Better Evidence for a Better World from researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in the areas of education, crime and justice, social welfare and public health, for its Ninth Annual Colloquium in Oslo, Norway on 18-20 May 2009. The event is being organised in association with The Lancet.

The deadline for submission is January 15, 2009.
Please submit via the online submission webpage.
If you should experience technical difficulties with your abstract submission, please contact us by e-mail at colloquium2009@c2admin.org.

How can we improve our schools? How do we best protect our community from crime? How should we care for the homeless? As with health, there is an abundance of questions concerning the effectiveness of interventions and the balance between good and harmful effects.

Together, these areas comprise much of what society is about: creating a safe environment for children to grow up in, encouraging learning and equal opportunities for all, whilst providing safety nets for those in need. As underlined by the Commission on Social Determinants of Health, protection from crime and social welfare also clearly constitute the broader determinants of health. (Closing the gap in a generation: Health equity through action on the social determinants of health. Geneva: WHO, 2008).

Conference theme
This year, we especially welcome contributions from low and middle income countries. To assess the impact of attempts to improve how people are born, grow, live, work and age in poor countries is of outmost importance.

We aim to demonstrate how the social and medical arenas interrelate and how interventions often target the same individuals across disciplines. The conference will highlight the need for relevant and reliable evidence, and encourage the building of a world library of systematic reviews aimed at summarising that evidence. Hence, we are interested in papers on both primary research and systematic reviews.

Proposal Submission Format
Your session proposal should contain enough information to allow the Program Committee to make an accurate judgment of the content of your presentation. Please include the following in your submission:
  • Title of paper, poster or symposia
  • Name, institutional affiliation, mailing address, email address, telephone and fax numbers for the authors/presenters.
  • An abstract of no more than 400 words.
