Crime and Justice


The Crime and Justice Coordinating Group compiled this listing of useful tools and information portals for Campbell authors and reviewers.  These online resources feature partner organizations, collaborators, and leading research in the field of crime and justice.

Academy of Experimental Criminology
The Academy of Experimental Criminology was founded in 1999 in order to recognize criminologists who have successfully led randomized, controlled, field experiments in criminology.  The Academy's members also support the Journal of Experimental Criminology, which publishes major advances in criminology and its methods through field experimentation, quasi-experiments, and other research involving systematic manipulation of variables.

Australian Institute of Criminology 
The Australian Institute of Criminology was established as a Commonwealth statutory authority in 1973, and operates under the Criminology Research Act 1971.  The functions of the AIC include conducting criminological research, communicating the results of research, conducting or arranging conferences and seminars, and publishing material arising out of the AIC's work.

Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security (CEPS) 
The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security (CEPS), headquartered at Griffith University, is a major research partnership between the Australian National University, Griffith University, the University of Queensland, and Charles Sturt University.  The Centre also brings in a range of industry partners, committed to innovation and evidence-based research in policing and security.

Brå (Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention)
The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention functions as the Swedish Government's body of expertise within the judicial system.  The council works to reduce crime and improve safety by producing data and disseminating knowledge on crime and crime prevention work, as well as producing Sweden's official crime statistics, evaluating reforms, conducting research, and supporting local crime prevention efforts.  Presented in English, with links to Swedish, Finnish, French, German, and Spanish translations. 

Campbell Collaboration Japanese Website (in Japanese)
The Japanese version of the Campbell Collaboration website, produced by CCJG Steering Committee member Professor Hiroshi Tsutomi (Shizuoka University, Japan).  The website includes Japanese translations of C2 reviews, guidelines for review preparation, and other information included on the English version of the website.

Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy, George Mason University, USA
The Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy, under the direction of Campbell Crime & Justice Group co-chair Professor David Weisburd, seeks to advance scientifically rigorous research in the area of criminal justice and criminology and to serve as an international link to practitioners and the policy communities.  CEBCP engages in a wide variety of projects, including primary research on criminological and criminal justice issues as well as evaluation of interventions for outcome effectiveness.

Jerry Lee Centre for Experimental Criminology, Cambridge University, UK
The Jerry Lee Centre for Experimental Criminology at Cambridge University, directed by CCJG Steering Committee member Professor Lawrence Sherman, was founded in 2007 with the support of the Jerry Lee Foundation, a philanthropy dedicated primarily to reducing crime and enhancing education through research on what works to achieve these goals.  The world's largest program of multisite randomized controlled trials of a justice strategy, the Jerry Lee Program in Randomize Controlled Trials in Restorative Justice, is now based at the Centre, which also provides generous support for training doctoral and post-doctoral students.

The Jerry Lee Center of Criminology at the University of Pennsylvania, directed by CCJG Steering Committee member Professor Lawrence Sherman, was founded in 2001 with the support of the Jerry Lee Foundation, a philanthropy dedicated primarily to reducing crime and enhancing education through research on what works to achieve these goals.  The mission of the Jerry Lee Center of Criminology is to produce major discoveries about the causes and prevention of crime, showing how to make a safer and more democratic world.

National Institute of Justice, USA 
The National Institute of Justice is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the US Department of Justice, and is dedicated to researching crime control and justice issues.  NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to meet the challenges of crime and justice, particularly at the State and local levels.

National Policing Improvement Agency, UK
The National Policing Improvement Agency, directed by CCJG Steering Committee member Peter Neyroud, is a part of the UK police service.  The agency aims to make a unique contribution to improving public safety by driving improvement and leading-edge practice, delivering and developing essential services and infrastructure to support policing, and providing solutions to enable police services to invest more time in front-line police work.
