Formal system processing of juveniles cited in the US
The Center for Children's Advocacy cited our review Formal system processing of juveniles: Effects of delinquency in its testimony before US Congress in March. The testimony was given in support of a house bill concerning school resource officers.

They write:  "A 2010 study shows that formal processing through the juvenile justice system harms the life outcomes of children. The very act of being labeled as a delinquent makes them more likely to commit crimes as adults.  Researchers studied more than 7,300 juveniles across 29 experiments over a 35-year period.  Based on the evidence, formal processing of juveniles appears not to control crime, but actually seems to increase delinquency."

Effects of drug substitution programs cited in Norway
A new government report on drug use and how to better assist those addicts who are in most need of help entitled Rapport om narkotika (in Norwegian) , was launched in June. The report cites the systematic review Effects of Drug Substitution Programs on Offending among Drug-Addicts (ref. no. 95, p. 45).

The text reads: "Several studies have looked at substitution treatment and the occurrence of crime. Generally, it seems as if treatment with heroin reduces crime more than treatment with methadone, while treatment with methadone reduces crime substantially in comparison with situations where no treatment is offered. In regards to treatment with buprenorphine, the data is less certain, but promising." (translation from Norwegian by article author)
