Intellectual disability may impact on an individual’s capacity to parent a child effectively, while research suggests that the number of intellectually disabled people with children is increasing. Are there effective strategies to reduce the risk of neglectful care and resulting health, developmental and behavioural problems?
A new review published by the Cochrane and Campbell Collaborations examines parent training interventions and looks at their impact on improving parenting skills, safe home practices and the understanding of child health. The review team was led by Esther Coren of Canterbury Christ Church University, UK.
