Classroom management versus problem behavior

Disruptive behavior in the classroom is a perennial concern, and teachers have sought assistance to counter bad behavior and to better manage the classroom.  Are there effective strategies to reduce problem student behavior?

A new Campbell review examines the effect of teacher classroom management strategies for reducing disruptive and aggressive student behavior. The review concludes that these strategies can reduce problem behavior. In line with the findings of similar reviews on other topics, it also concludes that more research is needed to identify effective components of such strategies and to gauge how individual program elements contribute to better outcomes.

The review team was led by Regina M. Oliver, Peabody College, Department of Special Education, Vanderbilt University.
