Campbell CCTV review in the media spotlight
The findings of a recent Campbell review on closed-circuit television surveillance have been extensively reported in international media. Having been cited by British Home Office ministers in response to concerns in the House of Lords about the surveillance society, the review has been covered in the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph, as well as on the Danish national broadcasting corporation, DR. Review authors Welsh and Farrington conclude that the used of closed-circuit television surveillance does not have a significant effect on crime; public spending on CCTV is substantial, but existing evaluations showing positive effects may be lacking in methodological rigor.
