Tips for searching The Campbell Library

This article will give you tips on how to search The Campbell Library, as well as a description of how to find the URL for a particular document.

To search the Campbell Library you may search for words in the title, for the lead author, for C2-domain or Type of document - or a combination of these. Each search field is described in detail below.

1. Title word
Title words are words that appear in the title of a review. In a search, these words are automatically truncated. Truncation is a means of searching for the variations of word endings.

Example: Searching for delinquen automatically expands the search to include delinquent, delinquents and delinquency.

If you add two or more words to the search, the database retrieves documents that contain all of these words in the title, but not necessarily in the order that they were entered.

Example: a search for school effect retrieves documents such as:
Effects of Preparatory Courses on University Entrance Exams in High School-Age Student
and
The effects of early childhood educational programmes (ECE) on the socio-emotional development and school achievement of children disadvantaged by poverty

2. Lead author
The lead authors are organized by first name in the list box. Searching for two authors at the same time is not possible as there is only one lead author per review.

3. C2 Domain
The Campbell Library contains documents from four of the Campbell Collaboration's coordinating groups, i.e. Crime & Justice, Social Welfare, Education and the Users Group.

To search for documents from one of these groups only, click on the relevant group in the list box. To search for documents from multiple groups, CTRL-click to select/deselect groups in the list box.

Not selecting any domains means that documents from all groups are retrieved.

4. Type of document
A Campbell review is developed in three stages, producing three types of documents, i.e. titles, protocols and completed reviews. The documents pertaining to these stages are all searchable, so are the associated user abstracts, updates and data tables.

To search for one of these document types only, click on the relevant document type in the list box. To search multiple document types, CTRL-click to select/deselect multiple groups in the list box.

Not selecting any document types means that all documents types are retrieved.

Finding the URL of a specific document
  • Perform a search.
  • In the list of search results, right click on the type of document (Title, Protocol, Review, User Abstract) in the left hand "Files" column.
  • A menu will appear giving you a range of options. This menu will vary somewhat between browsers, but will give you an option which enables you to copy the document URL.
